Rahmon and Erdogan highlight relevance of providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan

The leaders of Tajikistan and Turkey touched upon this topic during a telephone conversation.

On September 9, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The parties discussed the prospects for joint actions to address modern threats and noted the importance of helping the people of Afghanistan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

The President of Turkey congratulated his counterpart on the 30th anniversary of independence of Tajikistan. The leaders of the two states noted substantive relations between the two countries in the trade and economic sectors.

Particular attention was paid to the instability in the IRA. The parties agreed that Afghanistan needed an inclusive cabinet of ministers, which must include representatives of ethnic groups. The emphasis was placed on the relevance of providing humanitarian assistance to the people of the South Asian state.

Erdogan said he would make a working trip to Dushanbe at the first opportunity.

On July 1, Defence Minister of Turkey Hulusi Akar arrived in Tajikistan. During the meeting with Rahmon, he agreed to expand cooperation between the defence departments of the republics, in particular in combating terrorism.
