Dushanbe and Berlin sign agreement to combat terrorism

This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Mukhriddin, following the meeting with his German counterpart Heiko Maas.

On August 30, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin received Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas. The parties discussed the instability in Afghanistan and the prospects for cooperation in combating terrorism, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.

Noting that the security situation in Afghanistan remained unpredictable, the parties exchanged views on the consequences of the seizure of power by the Taliban (a terrorist organisation banned in Russia).

Sirojiddin Mukhriddin said Dushanbe was ready to support the humanitarian initiatives of the Federal Republic of Germany. The interlocutors highlighted the need to strengthen the legal framework between Germany and Tajikistan, noting that the Governments of the two states had drafted an agreement to combat crime and ensure regional security.

On August 21, Mukhriddin and Maas had a telephone conversation, during which it was noted that Berlin was ready to assist Dushanbe in strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border.
