Uzbekistan and Japan discuss global and regional issues

The current situation and prospects of bilateral political and diplomatic, trade, economic and investment cooperation were discussed.

Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held talks with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Satoshi Nakanishi. The issues on the global and regional agenda, the current situation and prospects of bilateral political and diplomatic, trade, economic and investment cooperation were discussed, the press office of the MIFT reports.

The prospects for promoting cooperation within the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue – a platform for building up relations, ensuring sustainable economic growth in the region and enhancing cooperation between the Central Asian states and Japan were considered.

The emphasis was placed on the significant progress made in implementing the agreements based on the outcomes of high-level visits. Japan’s investment in the implementation of investment and social programmes in Uzbekistan has significantly increased. For example, the Digital University in Tashkent was set up together with Digital Knowledge. Today, a number of investment projects are being implemented together with Japanese partners in the automotive, chemical and hotel industries.

The interlocutors agreed to hold jointly the Year of Uzbekistan in Japan and the Year of Japan in Uzbekistan in 2022 as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries.
