Consequences of explosions at munitions warehouse in Zhambyl Region being eliminated

Measures are being taken to find missing persons and reconstruct housing and social infrastructure.

On August 29, Zhambyl Region Akim Bedirbek Saparbayev reported during a briefing that housing and social infrastructure was being reconstructed at a rapid pace after the tragic incident in Bayzak district, the press office of the Akimat reported.

As was reported, a fire broke out at a warehouse of military unit No. 2839 on August 26, at 19.00, which triggered several explosions at a munitions warehouse where engineering ammunition was stored. Nearby settlements were affected. Several military servants and firefighters died in the line of duty battling a warehouse fire and preventing explosions. In accordance with the Decree of the President, they were awarded the high state awards posthumously for their heroism and courage.

The Zhambyl Region Akim informed that 106 houses and a number of social facilities had been damaged, and all of them would be restored fully. For these purposes, the authorities of the Republic have allocated funds from the local budget. Sponsor support was provided on a voluntary basis, Saparbayev noted.

In total, 98 people received injuries of varying severity; all of them are military and emergency officials. As of today, no civilian casualties have been revealed. Search operations are being conducted to locate missing persons, involving emergency officials, special forces officers, dog handlers and unmanned aerial vehicles.
