Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan addresses problems of labour migrants and their children

Deputy Prime Minister Jyldyz Bakashova said children of labour migrants were often vulnerable to violence.

On August 26, representatives of a number of government agencies discussed the major problems faced by citizens of the Republic working abroad. The emphasis was placed on the need to expand support for labour migrants and their children, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

These citizens made a significant contribution to the national economy, Deputy Prime Minister Jyldyz Bakashova said. Many migrants were facing a number of additional challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic, she added.

She said about 84,000 children in Kyrgyzstan lived far from their parents, and some of them were often vulnerable to violence.

The participants in the meeting highlighted the importance of improving the mechanisms of interaction between government agencies and Kyrgyz diaspora organisations, particularly with regard to the search for missing compatriots. The emphasis was placed on the need for more effective care of children of labour migrants, as well as the protection of the rights and interests of young citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
