World Bank improves water supply and sanitation systems in Dushanbe

This will be done under a new project, being implemented by the World Bank and the administration of the capital of Tajikistan.

On August 24, Head of the Dushanbe administration Rustam Emomali met with the World Bank delegation. The interlocutors discussed key aspects of interaction between the capital of Tajikistan and the World Bank. Particular attention was paid to the projects aimed at improving water supply and sewerage systems, the press office of the Mayor’s Office reports.

World Bank’s Regional Director for the Central Asia region Tatiana Proskuryakova headed the delegation. Newly appointed World Bank Country Manager in Dushanbe Ozan Sevimli was introduced during the meeting.

The meeting agenda focused on the implementation of a new project aimed at reducing drinking water losses and the number of incidents in water distribution networks in Sino district of Dushanbe with over 120,000 residents.

Particular attention was paid to the setting into operation of a new water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 500,000 cubic metres and the Varzob water treatment plant that will filter 275,000 cubic metres of water per day.

Rustam Emomali and the members of the delegation discussed the implementation of projects of the Smart City SUE.
