This topic was raised during a telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Mukhriddin with his German counterpart Heiko Maas.

On August 21, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin held telephone talks with his counterpart from the Federal Republic of Germany Heiko Maas. The parties agreed to expand cooperation in fighting terrorists in Afghanistan, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

The parties highlighted the need to intensify joint efforts to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border and build up the capacity of law enforcement agencies. The officials highlighted the importance of taking additional measures to combat jointly terrorism, extremism, radicalism and illegal drug trade.

The interlocutors agreed to establish regular contacts within the EU platforms and other international organisations.

As was reported, the radical Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) seized power in Afghanistan. In this regard, Tajikistan is conducting military exercises and strengthening border controls.

Beijing and Dushanbe conducted the joint tactical exercises to combat militants in the Ramit Gorge of Vahdat city. The CSTO decided not to help the Central Asian republic on the border with Afghanistan for the time being.

Political expert Mederbek Korganbaev noted that the Taliban were unlikely to attack Tajikistan due to many other problems in the IRA that that needed to be addressed as soon as possible.
