Turkmenistan to strengthen epidemiological surveillance of influenza

The relevant training course was held in Ashgabat by WHO as part of the pandemic influenza preparedness action plan.

A seminar on epidemiological surveillance of influenza was held in the capital of Turkmenistan on August 13. The event was organized by the staff of the World Health Organization Country Office. It was reported by the electronic newspaper «Golden Age» on August 19.

During the seminar, Turkmen specialists were acquainted with new guidelines for sentinel influenza surveillance. They were shown some features of a new version of the electronic program TESSy (European Surveillance System for Influenza and ARI).

The training and practical event was attended by WHO experts, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, employees of the relevant regional departments and organizations.

Laboratory supervision, issues of preparation of reports and data management were considered at the seminar. Local specialists got an opportunity to test the TESSy system.

A two-day training course, held at Ashgabat’s Center for Public Health and Nutrition of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, was organized as part of the action plan for pandemic influenza preparedness of Turkmenistan.
