MFA of Turkmenistan discuss participation of Berdimuhamedov in EXPO 2020

The topic was touched upon at the meeting of the UAE Ambassador Ahmed Alhay Alhameli and the deputy Foreign Minister Matiev.

On August 16, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Berdiniyaz Matiev received the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Ahmed Alhay Alhameli. The parties discussed issues of further cooperation between the countries and the EXPO 2020 to be hosted in Dubai, as reported by the Emirates News Agency.

Alhameli commended the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE. Matiev agreed with the ambassador and stressed that the countries support constructive partnership at all levels. The Turkmen official also wished the newly appointed ambassador success in his work and announced the intention of the government to widely support the foreign civil servant in fulfilling his tasks.

During the meeting, the focus was also made on the possible participation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in a World Expo to be hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

It must be added that the Turkmen leader took part in EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, EXPO 2015 in Milan, and EXPO 2017 in Astana. The exhibition in Dubai was originally scheduled for 20 October 2020 — 10 April 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the new dates are 1 October 2021 — 31 March 2022.
