Kyrgyzstan to help Turkmenistan fight drug trafficking

The statement was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Niyazbekov during a visit to the tourist zone «Avaza».

On August 6, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ulan Niyazbekov met with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan Ovezdurdy Hojaniyazov. The talks were held in the tourist zone «Avaza» within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia. The parties discussed the joint fight against crime. It was reported by the press office of the Kyrgyz ministry on August 10.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to countering drug trafficking. According to Niyazbekov, Turkmenistan is actively working to prevent the spread of a significant part of drugs from Afghanistan in Central Asia. The official stressed that Bishkek is ready to fully support Ashgabat in this direction.

Civil servants also paid special attention to the importance of jointly combating transnational organized crime and extremism. The parties agreed to strengthen ties between the countries in the law enforcement sphere.

It should be reminded that on August 5, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov paid an official visit to Turkmenbashi. There he met with the head of the state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The leaders of the countries discussed the possibilities of gas imports and the prospects for the development of tourism.
