Guterres hopes Turkmenistan will take active part in ensuring peace

UN Secretary-General touched upon the topic in a letter sent to the leader of the country Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has sent a letter to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with gratitude for the support in his reappointment to the relevant post at the UN. It was reported by «Turkmenistan Today» on August 9.

In the letter, the Secretary-General noted that he expects Turkmenistan to take an active part in strengthening the international structure and expanding the interaction with the UN in ensuring global peace and stability.

Guterres said he would serve the interests of all states that are part of the United Nations. He also stressed the importance of further cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and inequality, «healing the planet». The UN Secretary-General drew attention to the fact that he deeply respects Berdimuhamedov.

It must be added that on June 20, the President of Turkmenistan congratulated Guterres on re-election to the post of Secretary-General of the organization. The leader of the country expressed confidence that Guterres will continue to improve the efficiency of the United Nations.
