Meeting in Avaza to accelerate development of Central Asian countries

Expert Yuri Aronsky believes that the practice of coordinated use of the common potential will drive the development of the region.

On August 6, 2021, a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia was held in the tourist zone Avaza, Turkmenistan. The Presidents of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan took part in it.

Economist, scientist, chairman of the Union of Economists of Turkmenistan (UET), representative of the Coordinating Council of the International Union of Economists, as well as an expert of CentralAsia.news Yuri Aronsky summed up the economic results of the high-level seaside forum from a professional point of view.

Regional resources — generator of development

The main purpose of the event was to agree and consult on the joint solution of a number of topical issues and to strengthen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

The leaders of the countries noted that joint initiatives of the Central Asian states in solving important global and regional problems have tangible results in the world arena. The region possesses strategic reserves of natural and human resources, it is a bridge between Europe and the countries of East Asia. Therefore, the joint and coordinated use of the potential of their countries should accelerate sustainable economic development for each of the states and increase security both in the region and throughout the world.

At the meeting, important attention was paid to the development of the financial system and attracting investment to the region, increasing mutual trade, and the need to further develop common mutually beneficial approaches to effectively solving problems of simplifying trade procedures in the region. At the same time, it is envisaged that agreements and positive decisions will help to accelerate the development of entire sectors of the economy of the countries of the region if there is a need for their products not only in the domestic market but also in neighboring states.

Logistics and business

The same can be said for the transport and logistics international corridors «North-South» and «East-West», the joint development of which was widely discussed at the Consultative Meeting. The analysis shows that access to the shores and the coasts will give a strategic advantage to all countries of the region in world markets, and will significantly increase the competitiveness of the goods and resources of the region.

Today, the private sector of the economy in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly, higher than the national average. Our neighbors also work in this direction.

Therefore, it seems that the decision to create a five-sided Council of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Central Asian countries will help to solve the issues of innovative development in the private sector, simplify the implementation of the Program for the Development of the Digital Economy of Turkmenistan due to the already accumulated experience of neighboring countries in certain sectors of the economy and give an additional impetus to the development of a modern competitive private enterprise.

Energy and ecology

The issues of rational use of water and energy resources discussed at the Consultative Meeting are very important since the lack of coordination in this area often led to a significant deterioration of the environmental situation all over the world and even an increase in tension in relations between individual countries.

The leaders of the countries of the region reached a very important agreement that the existing and under construction hydropower facilities to facilitate the solution of water and energy issues in Central Asia will take into account the interests of all countries in the region.

And that is only a small part of the issues considered at the meeting.

Results achieved in the corresponding areas confirm the fact that the joint efforts of the Central Asian countries on improving the mechanisms of mutually beneficial cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals in the region have a great effect both now and in the long term.
