Deputy Minister of Health of Kazakhstan announces development concept

The new development guide includes measures to improve organ donation and transplantation.

Deputy Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Azhar Giniyat reported on the current level of development of the national organ donation system. She focused on future prospects for restoring patients’ trust in this demanded medical specialty. The Vlast information resource took an interview with the Deputy Minister on August 6.

The Deputy Minister said the main ‘anchor’ problem arose with donors in most cases. In this regard, a set of mechanisms will be developed to boost incentives for the clinics specialising in posthumous organ donation. A number of donor centres have been opened at the regional multidisciplinary clinics that accept patients after a heart attack or head injury who can be candidates for organ donation.

The doctor added that transplant coordinators worked at these centres. These specialists closely communicate with the close relatives of the bereaved person and explain to them that their bereaved relative can offer hope to others whose lives can be saved.

Azhar Giniyat noted this was only one aspect of the development concept of organ donation and transplantation, being developed by the Ministry of Health.

The Deputy Minister confirmed that the concept would be finalized and adopted this year and put into effect next year. It will take 3 years to implement the concept.
