Turkmenistan introduces new rules for sale of tobacco products

Wholesale and retail trade can only be carried out by legal entities under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Trade.

New rules for the sale of tobacco products have been introduced in Turkmenistan. The corresponding innovations were developed by the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations in agreement with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was reported by the press office of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan on July 28.

Only legal entities under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Trade can now sell the relevant products within wholesale and retail. At the same time, the sale of electronic cigarettes and unfiltered cigarettes is prohibited.

Citizens can buy the corresponding goods only in the special departments of shops that sell food and non-food goods.

Tobacco products must be certified. Persons under the age of 18 are not allowed to purchase them. The goods must be hidden. The only thing allowed to be shown is a list of product names written with black letters with the same font on a white background.

The Ministry of Trade has banned the sale of cigarettes on the territory of sports facilities, hospitals, cultural institutions, catering establishments, railway, auto and air stations, ports, and hotels. In addition, shops cannot sell tobacco products if they are located less than 100 meters away from educational institutions.

Trade in tobacco products through online platforms, as well as through automated vending machines, was also banned.
