USDA sponsors over 400 preschool improvements

The McGovern-Dole Programme also provides for the improvements to 245 preschools in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya.

On July 27, the Ministry of Preschool Education, Mercy Corps and the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation under the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. The USDA-funded programme will allow providing 410 kindergartens and other institutions of this type with quality nutrition and improving infrastructure of 245 rural preschools in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya to improve nutrition and learning outcomes for 90,000 children, the press office of the Ministry of Preschool Education reported to CentralAsia.news.

“Like their peers from other countries, Uzbek children continue to be greatly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The interaction with the Ministry of Health within this partnership gives the opportunity to achieve even greater sanitation and hygiene improvements,” US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum emphasised.

The programme aims to raise awareness of advanced nutrition, health and hygiene practices and safe food preparation within preschools. To prevent the spread of communicable diseases at the school level, the programme will provide for the improvements in sanitation and hygiene practices and training of preschool teachers, nurses and cooks in proper standards and practices.
