Rahmon cancels trip to Iran due to visit to Turkmenistan

The President of Tajikistan will take part in the Central Asia Summit in Ashgabat.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will not attend the inauguration of President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi. Speaking at a briefing on July 27, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Mukhriddin said the main reason was the scheduled trip to Ashgabat, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.

The Minister said Rahmon would take part in the Central Asia Summit in Turkmenistan, which would be held on August 6. The official visit will last for three days, from 4 to 6 August. Mukhriddin expressed hope that the trip would be historic.

Head of the lower house of Parliament Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda will represent Tajikistan at the inauguration of President-elect Ebrahim Raisi.

The Minister reported that President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the leader of Tajikistan held telephone conversations on April 28 and June 29, during which the leaders of the two states had agreed to enrich relations with new practical initiatives.
