Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan: No one goes hungry

Sulaimon Ziyozoda said meat production in the country accounted for over 88,000 tons in the first 6 months of the year.

On July 12, a press conference on “The Achievements of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan in the first half of 2021” took place at Tajik Agrarian University. Minister of Agriculture Sulaimon Ziyozoda reported on meat production rates, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The Minister emphasised that much work was being done in the country to achieve food independence. He said over 88,000 tons of meat were produced in the country in the first 6 months of the year, noting that domestic production would fully meet domestic demand for this product in 2-3 years.

He added that the price of this product in Tajikistan did not exceed 70 somoni (about US$ 6), while 1 kg of meat cost about US$ 13 in other countries.

“No one will go hungry; there is a lot of food. The country has reached the targets of production of meat, milk, eggs, cereals, vegetables and fruits,” the Minister said.

Ziyozoda promised that carrots would become cheaper soon, noting that the carrot price was high because the cold winter had delayed sowing.
