Authorities provide assistance to mudflow victims in Jalal-Abad Region

Mudflows in Aksy Region killed 8 people, destroyed houses and damaged facilities.

On July 13, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulukbek Maripov instructed that the government agencies take immediate measures to mitigate the impacts of mudflows in Aksy district, Jalal-Abad Region. He underlined the need to use necessary resources to assist in responding to the natural disaster, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Maripov instructed that sanitation and hygiene measures be implemented in the region where the natural disaster had occurred.

He said the state would offer whatever support it could to all victims.

According to the Jalal-Abad Region department of internal affairs, on July 12, at about 19:00 there was information that heavy rains had triggered severe floods on the Tandy-Bulak pasture that connects the rural districts of Zhany-Zhol and Ak-Zhol in Aksy Region. The natural disaster killed 8 people, destroyed houses and damaged facilities.

The bodies of two men and four women were found. Two more citizens are reported missing, they are being searched for.
