Uzbekistan enhances bilateral cooperation with UN

The President of Uzbekistan and the President of the UN General Assembly discussed further steps to enhance interactions.

On July 6, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held fruitful talks with President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir, who arrived in Uzbekistan for a working visit. The parties discussed the ways to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic and the UN agencies and identified further steps to implement joint projects, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

It was emphasised that in recent years, the General Assembly had developed and adopted at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan a number of special resolutions on such important issues as increased interaction in Central Asia, sustainable development and support of the tourism potential of the region, education and religious tolerance and the creation of a zone of environmental innovations and technologies in the Aral Sea region.

The interlocutors discussed relevant issues on strengthening partnerships in the priority areas of economic and social development of Uzbekistan and Central Asia, gender equality and youth empowerment, including through parliaments, nature protection, access to vaccines and other important issues.

They also exchanged views on peaceful settlement of the current situation in Afghanistan, noting that they would make every possible effort to resolve the conflict in the IRA.
