Tajikistan and Turkey expand defence cooperation

Rahmon and the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Turkey addressed this theme during a meeting in Dushanbe.

On July 1, the capital of Tajikistan hosted an official meeting between President Emomali Rahmon and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Turkey Hulusi Akar. The interlocutors discussed the major areas of further interstate cooperation in defence, the press office of the leader of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

The emphasis was placed on the importance of expanding cooperation between the Ministries of the two countries and taking joint efforts to counter modern challenges and threats, in particular terrorists and extremists.

Discussing political instability in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Rahmon and Akar highlighted the need to find a peaceful solution to this problem.

Speaking at the briefing, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Turkey said Ankara viewed Tajikistan as an important partner in Central Asia. He informed that Rahmon had invited President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Dushanbe. The visit would take place shortly, he added.

As was reported, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Turkey visited Kyrgyzstan on June 29-30. He met with his counterpart and the leader of Kyrgyzstan. They discussed partnerships in the military and defence industry.
