UN holds briefing on drug problem in Ashgabat

The participants of the press conference shared the facts and practical solutions to address the relevant problem.

A briefing on the issues of combating drug abuse was organized at the UN House in the capital of Turkmenistan. During the event, the World Drug Report 2021 was presented. It was reported by the UN press office on Instagram on July 1.

The briefing was attended by officials from relevant government departments, international representatives, as well as local and foreign journalists. They shared facts and practical solutions to address the current world drug problem.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of national programs within the cooperation between Ashgabat and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

According to the report, the pandemic increased the risks associated with psychotropic substances. It was also noted that the younger generation underestimates the dangers of cannabis.

The head of the Department of Law and International Relations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Geldimyrat Haldurdyyev said that the pandemic did not affect the drug situation in Turkmenistan. According to him, the border is under strict control, and the number of seizures of drugs has not increased.
