Ashgabat hosts forum for political scientists and journalists

The participants of the international event indicated the main directions for the development of regional dialogue in the media sphere.

On June 30, the capital of Turkmenistan hosted an International Media Forum «Regional Dialogue with the Participation of Political Scientists and Journalists. The congress participants indicated the current vectors of development and improvement of the quality of cooperation in the media sphere. It was reported by a correspondent of CentralAsia.news from Ashgabat.

The event was organized at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. It was attended by over 100 journalists from 29 countries, university professors, students, representatives of international organizations.

Forum participants discussed new trends and mechanisms for the exchange of information flows between media communities, exchanged work experience. The agenda of the congress included the 30th anniversary of independence and the 25th anniversary of the neutrality of Turkmenistan. Particular attention was paid to the importance of declaring 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust at the initiative of Ashgabat.

It was marked that Turkmenistan widely popularizes the domestic and foreign policies of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and is actively integrating into the international information space, publishing articles on the achievements of Turkmenistan in popular newspapers and online media. The state also focuses on the digitalization of national media and increasing the level of knowledge of specialists in this direction.

ECO Secretary General Hadi Suleimanpur and Secretary-General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev stated that this forum is an important event and is intended to reaffirm Ashgabat’s aspirations to ensure peace and stability, social and economic well-being in the region.Deputy Chairman of the Interstate TV and Radio Company «MIR» Vladimir Kazarezov spoke about an interview with Berdimuhamedov.

— The leader of Turkmenistan focused on the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of the Independent States and the prospects of this organization, — said Kazarezov.

He said that at the moment the TV company is working on a series of documentaries that will be dedicated to the independence of the Commonwealth countries.

The head of the NTRC of Uzbekistan, Alisher Khajayev, emphasized the effectiveness of cooperation with the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography.

— Turkmenistan actively cooperates with Tatarstan in the media sphere. The corresponding partnership is implemented within the framework of a multi-format dialogue, — said the head of Tatmedia, Aydar Salimgarayev.

The editor-in-chief of the News Day Georgia magazine Avtandil Otinashvili positively assessed the policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan.

— Turkmen neutrality plays an important role in ensuring peace and stability in the region, as well as in the implementation of development goals, — marked the editor.

The general director of the Russian state-controlled international television network «Russia Today» Alexey Nikolov touched upon the topic of intolerance to information and another point of view in the media space. According to him, media representatives from all over the world should do everything necessary not to let this problem to turn into an information pandemic.

— The organizers of Turkmenistan have done a great job and provided journalists from different countries with an opportunity for open dialogue at this forum, — noted Nikolov.

Representatives of national and foreign media also stressed the need to hold such events systematically.
