Kazakhstan purchases grapes and onions from Tajikistan at advantageous prices

The original contracts for the purchase of fruits and vegetables from Tajikistan amounted to US$ 1.5 million.

Several contracts for the purchase of fruits and vegetables from Tajikistan amounting to US$ 1.5 million, mainly grapes and onions of the 2021 harvest, were signed during the two-day trip of Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov to the regions of Tajikistan. Talking to the Minister, Tajik farmers suggested flooding markets of Kazakhstan with apples, peaches, tomatoes, cucumbers, apricots, peppers, lemons and melons at advantageous prices, Bakhyt Sultanov writes on his Facebook page.

While travelling around the regions of Tajikistan and talking to local farmers, the Kazakhstan delegation explored and assessed the potential of the local agricultural market, quality, volumes and prices of local products, transportation and storage costs. Much depends on the ripening period.

“Direct supplies will remove the margin of opaque traders and make the products cheaper. The key issue is logistics. We need to work hard towards addressing this issue so as not to ‘lose value’ on expensive trucks. I have instructed that the working group examine all the options. This is a key issue of the future Central Asia-Kazakhstan commodity distribution system. We also discussed this issue at the Tajikistan Railways. We need to find profitable transport models,” the Minister writes.

The Minister also noted that mutually beneficial supplies would allow filling the gaps in domestic supplies of agricultural products and keeping prices down for consumers, and enable Kazakh manufacturer to supply of their own products to the markets of Russia, given the territorial proximity.

As was reported, Minister Bakhyt Sultanov discussed the aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation with Head of Khatlon Region Kurbon Hakimzoda during their meeting.
