Rahmon meets with citizens affected by mudslides

The President of Tajikistan talked to the residents of Kulyab who had lost their homes in the mudslides in early May.

On June 15, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the families affected by the recent mudslides in Kulyab, Khatlon Region. He said the central and local authorities had begun construction of 43 houses, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Rahmon said all damaged houses would be restored and reconstructed by August 20, noting that the mudslides took 3 lives, destroyed 43 houses and partially damaged 102 housing facilities in Kulyab on May 11.

The President said the natural disaster had killed thousands of farm animals and ravaged 136 hectares of arable land. The total cost of damage caused by the mudslides is 46 million somoni (about US$ 4 million). The leader of Tajikistan said all the families, namely 1,725 households, assistance with foods, furniture, clothing, building materials and fuel had been provided.

Rahmon added that over 3.5 billion somoni (approximately US$ 307 million) would be earmarked for social and economic development of Kulyab, and 221 projects would be implemented in 2021-2025.
